SANSHIN SYDNEY • branding
Sanshin Sydney is the first Sanshin performing ensemble in Sydney.
Sanshin is the quintessential instrument of the small but culturally rich archipelago of Okinawa, Japan. It’s a central instrument to the local music, being present in classical songs, folk sounds and also in contemporary styles.

Starting from the iconic sanshin shape, the logo brings Sanshin Sydney's harmony and warmth
1 Sanshin is known for the distinguished shape that reminds a banjo. So for the logo, we represented the Sanshin “based in Sydney”, using the letters Y and D to create the form of the instrument.
2 Combining five of the “Y-D” Sanshin, it became a flower that represents the unity and beauty of the group.
3 The main green colour was inspired by the Okinawan dyeing technique called u-ji zome, which has sugar cane as the source of the calming tone and is commonly used in local textiles as well as for the costumes.
